A Methodist Minister Blogging like it’s 2006

What I’m doing now

As of November 2024…

I’m still Superintendent Minister of the Shropshire and Marches Methodist Circuit. I also have pastoral responsibility for Rea Valley churches.

My online life has shifted away from the ‘corporate’ social media sites, especially since Twitter has become a cess-pit. I’ve accepted that I’m not likely to be making a return as a regular blogger. BlueSky has been getting my attention of late.

I do my scouting with the 23rd Shrewsbury Scout Group. We now have Beavers, Cubs and scouts. September 2024 saw some new leaders join the group and parental involvement in the ‘Group Trustee Board’ which oversees our “governance”. (Hate that word!) So it’s fair to say that our post-COVID recovery is well underway. I’ve led 4 short camps during 2024 and looking forward to more next year.

Photographically, I’m most inclined towards 35mm and 120 film cameras. I get a kick out of using “redundant” kit – it’s almost an act of rebellion against the consumerism that says your equipment must be the latest and greatest. Having said that, recently I’ve become quite attached to my Nikon DSLR. It isn’t exactly new (about 15 years old) and it can share lenses with my film SLRs so it has alot to commend it.

    Hi Richard,
Have just found this blog. Much gentler than the one you used to have where you were regularly called anti-Semitic (is that the right word?). I’ll have to find the button where I can set “follow “.
I like your pictures. Not sure I would have the patience to go back to rolls of film.
I hope the family are all well. I suspect the girls have partners by now.
We’re enjoying having James as our Super. Far too much for one minister in a circuit.
    Best wishes
    Bob

Hi Bob. I’m deliberately avoiding controversy here – I need less stress in my life these days! Patience is part of the point of going back to film. If I’m in a hurry I have a phone! It would be good to catch up with you sometime
